How do I become a DAFCtv Member?

Merely by being one of those people who fall into the category above.

Supply them with a USERNAME and your EMAIL ADDRESS. The username can be the same as you use on other Dover forums. When your DAFCtv account is set up you will receive an email confirming your password. You can then login to DAFCtv members. (We would advise changing your password to one you can remember.)

If you are a Trust Member, contact the TRUST, DO NOT email DAFCtv.

For club officials, volunteers and players email.

Supply us with your NAME a USERNAME and your EMAIL ADDRESS.

What are the benefits of being a DAFCtv member?

The regular DAFCtv site uses 'FlashPlayer'. Essentially this will mean that video highlights can only be played but not be downloaded to your PC.  Highlights of matches will always be available in this format on the regular site and for the time-being, interviews will also be available here. However, after the first few months of the season interviews will only be available to DAFCtv members.

The DAFCtv Members site will feature highlghts and interviews in Windows Media files, which essentially means they can be downloaded to your PC unlike those on the regular site.

The Flash files on the regular site will always be the same size for viewing..... you can't change the size to make them bigger. The files that can be downloaded from the Members site can be made as big as you like.

The DAFCtv Members site will feature special content such as higher quality downloads, archive Dover Athletic and features on the club from time to time.

All Trust members will be given 50% discount on the DAFCtv Premium site. This is a new service providing very high quality highlights. The reason for charging is that the files are larger so will cost us extra in bandwidth. More information on the DAFCtv Premium site.

ORDERING A DVD
How do I order a DVD?

You can order via using a credit or debit card by clicking on the NOCHEX symbol. If you prefer you can order using PayPal if you have a PayPal account. The details are exactly the same as for Nochex. Both methods are completely secure. Please ensure you indicate YOUR NAME, ADDRESS and EMAIL along with THE MATCHES YOU REQUIRE. Matches are always supplied in DVD-R . ENTER THE AMOUNT YOU ARE PAYING (£10 for each DVD-R ). Your details are only used to send your purchase OR contact you if there is any problem. You can also order by sending a cheque or postal order. Email for details.

How much are DVDs?

DVDs of most recent matches are £10 including postage and packing although those that were filmed in seasons gone past may be a bit more due to the fact that they have to be converted. Email for details or if you have any doubt.

How long will my DVD take to arrive?

DVDs are normally despatched within 2-3 days of receiving your order and funds clearing. DVDs ordered by cheque will take somewhat longer due to the time they will take to clear. I make no money out of this enterprise but people still send me cheques that bounce. Please don't be offended if your order paid for by cheque takes a little longer than order paid via a credit card.

TECHNICAL

After I click the link, the video keeps freezing then after a time it continues.

This is because the video is in streaming form and is still downloading. Depending on your connection speed you may be able to watch the video whilst downloading without it freezing. This is probably only if you have ADSL (Broadband). Once the file has completely downloaded you should be able to watch the footage without it freezing. If you have a normal (non-ADSL) connection it may be better to right click on the video link and choose “Save Target As”. This will download the entire video to your hard disk for repeat viewing.

Why can't I download the video to my PC!

Files on this site now use Flash Player. You can only download them if you are a Dover Athletic Trust Member.

I have a horizontal (or vertical) line displayed on the video footage.

The cause of this is not entirely clear but is normally due to conflicts with Graphics cards and software. If you’ve recently updated your Windows Media player or updated your graphics card / driver, this can happen. I have had some people who have experienced this and it is normally due to recent releases of Windows Media. Later updates of Windows Media seemed to get over the problem and it was made more compatible with other software. The trick is not to update a media player as soon as it is released because it will probably be full of incompatibilities. This has happened on a number of occasions to users and they have got over it be re-installing their earlier version of Windows Media Player, then upgrading when the compatibility issue had been sorted. Give it about 9 months after first release.

How long does it take to download video?

On a normal 56k connection it takes about 6 or 7 minutes per Mb to download. A 10Mb file will take over an hour. Make sure you set your internet browser so it doesn’t auto-disconnect from the internet through lack of activity.
ADSL at 500k will be around 6-8 times faster. A 10Mb file will download in less than 8 – 10 minutes.

Why don’t you put individual incidents in individual files rather than the entire highlights in one file?

Compiling highlights take a long time as it is. This would mean a delay in posting highlights on the site and means that my Saturday evenings are tied up completely. Moreover, I’ve looked at this kind of format on other club’s video sites and I don’t think it gives a good reflection of the entire game. I do post the highlights in various formats so it helps with those on standard connections.

GENERAL

How soon are highlights available after the end of a game?

Its quite difficult to say when highlights will be available since I have a family life and work full-time. Everything depends on whether or not I am otherwise engaged but the following is the normal rule of thumb.....

For a Saturday or Bank Holiday afternoon game, in general they are available by 10pm the same evening otherwise Sunday sometime. For long away trips, the highlights will normally be on Sunday.

For evening games, highlights are normally available next day during the evening, normally by 8pm.

Will you ever charge for downloading highlights?

The aim is not to charge for downloading highlights although I am anxious to preserve the service for Dover supporters. It is safe to say that opposition supporters benefit greatly from this service at times and this can take bandwidth away from the real aim of providing a service to the long-suffering Dover supporters. I will not charge for this service to regular Dover supporters / followers, but may want non-Dover supporters / followers to contribute a little more. How this is achieved is another issue that would need to be overcome.

Will you ever to provide live coverage?

Would love to, and is possible but technically is quite a challenge. The problem is, that this would have to be paid for since it would be expensive and would take money away from the gate.

The highlights seem slanted towards Dover.

In the main I try to include ALL significant incidents during a game whether Dover or the opposition. However, when space is limited, you must appreciate that this is a Dover Athletic Video website and for that reason the emphasis will naturally be on Dover.

How much does it cost to run Dover Athletic Video?

Taking everything into account….website, tapes, cameras, bits and pieces…… about £700 per year.

What video editing software?

Pinnacle 8. I’ve avoided Pinnacle 9 thus far because whilst Pinnacle has some wonderful features, new versions of the software are normally riddled with bugs until the next version is released.
