DOVER ATHLETIC'S FIRST SEASON BACK - PARTS 1 & 2

For the 2002/03 season, Dover Athletic found themselves relegated to the Dr.Martens League after nearly 10 years in the Football Conference.

This was after a turbulent season in that league in which they had almost gone out of business.

Throughout the disorder of their final Conference season,  Clive Walker had remained a loyal servant to the club having been assistant to two managers and taken over as caretaker manager on two occasions himself.

Clive Walker had earned his right to be installed as manager for Dover for their first season back in the Dr.Martens League.

With a mixture of experience and a youth, Dover Athletic would field its youngest team for many years. Its potential was unknown in a league that the club had last competed in some 10 years ago.

The two First Season Back Vidoes charts the first season back in the Dr.Martens League.

DOVER ATHLETIC'S LAYING THE GHOST TO REST

Dover Athletic’s continual failure year in and year out, to reach the 1st Round proper of the F.A.Cup has been a mystery to everyone connected with the club. In more recent years in the Conference, even overcoming just one qualifying round to reach that elusive stage has somehow evaded The Whites. Dropping back into the Dr.Martens League Premier Division during the 2002/03 season would mean an additional two qualifying Rounds to negotiate in order to reach that stage yet again.

As it turned out, this year’s competition would create Dover Athletic history for a number of reasons.

Some wonderful moments captured in the highlights from the season when Dover finally laid the F.A.Cup ghost to rest.

Running time: Approximately 60 minutes

DOVER ATHLETIC RESERVES - DOUBLE WINNERS

By complete contrast to the first team, Dover Athletic Reserves enjoyed an extremely successful 2001/02 season in the Bass Brewers Kent League Division 1 competitions. They were runners-up in the Kent League Division 1 Floodlit Cup and they also won the Division 1 League South.  By winning the South section competition, they earned themselves a play-off final slot against their winning counterparts in the North section, Dartford Reserves. In addition to this they also reached the final of the Bass Brewers Kent Division 1  League Cup Final against Thamesmead Town.

This video includes highlights of three games towards the end of the season. There are brief highlights of the visit to Hastings in the Floodlight Trophy, and the Division 1 League Cup Final against Thamesmead Town played at Chatham Town FC. Extended highlights of the Play-Off Cup Final against Dartford Reserves played at Ashford Town FC are also featured along with some additional footage, such as Dave Bathgate scoring for the first team with his first touch after coming on as substitute against Woking.

INFORMATION ABOUT PC CD-ROMS

CD-ROMs include MPEG videos files that can be viewed on your PC. Most modern PCs will be able to show the PCs although MS Media Player or RealPlayer will be required (The former usually supplied with your PC)

CD-Roms are produced by a supporter of Dover Athletic Football Club and proceeds from its sale go to the club. Please do not make illegal copies as it ultimately deprives the football club of much needed funds.

RUNNING THE CD

Insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and the CD should start automatically. If you have disabled your autorun facility on your computer, double-click on your "My Computer" folder and select the CD-ROM. Double click on the "Index.htm" file. This should open up your web-browser and the index page. If it doesn't, then you've been messing about on your computer rather more than you should and it all gets a bit complicated. You should refer to your computer's instruction documentation and seek out information on "File Association".

TECHNICAL STUFF

This CD features nine MPEG format video files of varying length all totaling around 57 minutes of video. The CD has been tested on a number of PCs and an attempt has been made to find the oldest PC available on which to test it. The oldest found was a Pentium PC running at 133Mhz, Windows 98, The CD-ROM was running at 8x. The videos viewed ok although you may find that older CD-ROM drives cause the video to stutter a little. Generally the rule is, the higher specification the machine, the better the videos run. I haven't tried it with Windows 95 although I've no reason to believe they won't work.

If you experience problems with the CD-ROM drive running fast enough, try copying the video files onto your hard disk and running them from here. To stop the CD autorunning, press the SHIFT key whilst inserting the CD.

MEDIA PLAYER / REAL PLAYER

I would recommend running the video files using Windows Media Player. They run ok on RealPlayer but the quality doesn't seem quite as good and for some reason they stop a bit abruptly prior to the video ending.

IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT

This CD has been tested for safe use and viruses with the most recent data and PCs available with no viruses detected and no problems encountered. However, the creator cannot be held responsible for any damage that may occur, however unlikely, to any PC as result of its use.
